GET TO KNOWOur History

C.H. Fraser Camp sits on a storied stretch of Square Lake shoreline, a location long known throughout northern Maine and the Northeast for its exceptional fishing. Positioned on the thoroughfare connecting Cross Lake and Square Lake, this site has drawn anglers for generations seeking landlocked salmon, lake trout, and the quiet rhythm of the North Woods.

After spending decades building and operating Flora Bella Farms in Three Rivers, California, James and Dawn Birch relocated full time to their farm in Fort Kent, Maine. While exploring the region, they discovered the original C.H. Fraser Inlet Camp property — a rare private parcel on Square Lake that had not welcomed lodgers for many decades.

Recognizing both its history and its potential, the Birches acquired the property and began carefully restoring the lodges with one goal in mind: to reopen this special place and once again share it with those who value great fishing, simple comforts, and the timeless experience of Maine’s North Woods.

Today, C.H. Fraser Camp honors its past while welcoming a new chapter — inviting guests to enjoy the same waters, forests, and traditions that have made Square Lake legendary for generations.
